Philip Wilson | Candidate standing in Autumn Elections 2010

My name is Philip Wilson and I am a part-time postgraduate studying public policy. Having also been a full-time undergraduate at Glasgow University, I am acutely aware of the differences and difficulties inherent in this mode of study. Often there is a need to balance work, family commitments and whilst for some, employers may pay their fees many are self-funded, which can be an enormous financial pressure. A common sentiment I have encountered is dislocation from the university and marginalisation in favour of full-time students. Consequently my manifesto is as follows:

1) To raise awareness of the needs of part-time students within the university.
2) To provide easily accessible information regarding funding towards fees.
3) To liaise with employers and highlight the benefits of allowing their employees the time to pursue further education.
4) To integrate part-time students within the campus and make them feel they have a voice.

The Heckling Meeting, at which the candidates each make a small speech followed by open questions from the floor, is happening the night before voting, on Tuesday the 19th October. It starts at 1730 in the Williams Room (which is upstairs in the John MacIntyre Building).

Voting takes place on Wednesday October 20th. You can vote using your GUID (the login details you use for websurf and the library) from ANY online computer, no matter where you are in the world. Voting will be open 0900 – 1700, with the results annouced at 1800, also in the Williams Room.
