November – Safety

November will be dedicated to safety problems. For personal and belongings safety tips click here.

Other events will concentrate on sexual health safety, in particular the on the problems that affect LGBT students. There will be a number of events on during the month, and details will be published on this page. The main objectives of the campaign will be:

To raise awareness of health issues within the LGBT community – achieved through events focusing on issues such as HIV/AIDS, mental health, smoking etc, as well as how to tackle discrimination within the health service. The main event will be SHAG Day (Sexual Health Awareness at Glasgow), on Nov. 30th.

To raise awareness of the needs of LGBT clients and patients to healthcare students – ensuring the medical and nursing schools are aware of the need to discuss equality and diversity issues with regards to sexual orientation and gender identity. We have approached the Medical Faculty on this issue, which has welcomed our contribution and recommendations on this matter.

To support charities and organisations who aim to tackle LGBT health inequalities – we generally have a number of fundraising events throughout the year and we intend to continue to do so, raising money for charities such as Terrance Higgins Trust.
