What are the GUSRC Student Teaching Awards?
We realise there is a lot of great teaching that goes on in the University – we have all had some fantastic teachers ourselves – and we think it’s about time all of those great teachers and tutors and staff got the recognition they deserve!
Ultimately, by recognising what the best teachers in the institution do so well, we can teach all of the not-so-good teachers their tricks, and improve the overall standard of teaching. What categories are there?
Best College Teacher (x4)
A chance to nominate the overall best teacher in your college.
Best Advisor of Studies
For the advisor that goes that extra mile to guide you through your time at uni.
Best research supervisor
For the brilliant supervisors out there that guide you through your research projects.
Best dissertation supervisor
For the best supervisors that helps you along with your dissertation
Best postgrad who tutors
For the tutors out there that give fantastic teaching who also happen to be postgrads
Best support staff
For the staff out there that don’t teach, such as administrators, counseling, international support and much more! Those who still go out of their way to cater to students.
Best focus on employability skills
For the staff member that highlights your career potential and helps you develop skills and graduate attributes.
Best feedback
For the staff who provide the best and most helpful feedback on your work, allowing you to improve over time as a result.
Most innovative teaching
For the teacher that likes to think outside the box, shake things up a bit and provide a different slant on the traditional methods of teaching
Best subject
For the overall best subject area that you feel is best for your learning experience as a whole. Taking into account all factors, such as individual teachers, postgrad tutors, support staff and much more!

What happens next?
When the nominations close, a panel comprising of SRC members will get together and go through the nominations.
All of the people nominated will be notified that they have been nominated and the shortlisted people will be invited to the awards ceremony at the end of March. We’re also going to be inviting the students who nominated them, so keep your diaries free in late March! We’ll select the winner from the shortlisted nominations and announce them at the ceremony.
The rules for nomination in the GUSRC Student Teaching Awards:
1.Any person nominating must be a current student, undergraduate or postgraduate, at the University of Glasgow
2.Any member of the University teaching staff can be nominated for a category.
3.You can only nominate one member of teaching staff per category, but more than one person can be nominated as long as the categories are different.
4.The member of the nominated teaching staff must have taught you or been your advisor or supervisor in the current academic year, in either semester 1 or semester 2.
5.A panel will decide the winners based mainly on the quality of the individual nominations, so make sure to give us some detail about why your teacher is great!.
6.The awarding panel will comprise of the GUSRC VP Learning and Development, VP Student Support, VP Media and Communications and GUSRC representatives from each of the colleges.
7.Publicity of the awards and information about the nominees and the winners might be used by the student media groups. Some achievements of the winners as well as details from their nominations will also be published in a report in order to identify good practice and improve the quality of teaching across the institution.
8.Nominations close on the 18th February, and the awards ceremony will take place in late March 2013.
